Isothermal relaxation of discommensurations in K2ZnCl4
1994
At the incommensurate-ferroelectric transition temperature T c of K 2 ZnCl 4 , the dielectric susceptibility contains an anomalous contribution both above and below T c . Previous quasi-static dielectric measurements and hysteresis loops demonstrated that this anomalous part arises from the peculiar dynamics of discommensurations. We have used isothermal dielectric measurements to get some insight into the long time dynamics of these discommensurations. We have found that the characteristic relaxation times τ are of the order of 10 4 s in the incommensurate and in the ferroelectric phase. Even more unusual is a non-monotonous relaxation which is observed in a restricted temperature range ab…
Performance evaluation and stability of silicide-based thermoelectric modules
2020
Abstract Long-term studies on thermoelectric generators based on N-type magnesium silicide (Mg2.01Si0.49Sn0.5Sb0.01) and P-type higher manganese silicide (Mn0.98Mo0.02Si1.73Ge0.02) materials are presented, in the operating temperature range of 200 °C–400 °C. Emphasis is put on the performance and reliability of the current collector configuration, especially on the hot side of the module, and on the thermomechanical stresses that are created during operation and lifetime testing as a result of large temperature gradients experienced across the thermoelectric legs. With silver (Ag) paste as contact material, the long term-stability of the uni-couples was carried out on non-metalized legs and…
Is there a global carbonate layer in the oceanic mantle?
2021
co-auteur étranger; International audience; Previous modeling of carbonate subduction by high‐pressure experimentation has allowed to propose scenarios for bulk carbon return to the mantle, but the detailed transfer mechanisms have seldom been studied. We monitored carbonate – silicate reactions by combining high‐pressure experiments and synchrotron‐based x‐ray diffraction. Carbonates break down at moderate pressure and high temperature and CO2 is trapped at grain boundaries. Further isothermal compression yields melting, which may control continuous carbon introduction, first in the mantle wedge, and next, away from the wedge. Carbon presence has been discussed in a variety of magmatic con…
Note. Kinetic parameters of Bacillus stearothermophilus spores under isothermal and non-isothermal heating conditions Nota. Parámetros cinéticos del …
1998
Thermobacteriological studies using Bacillus stearotherrnophilus spores were carried out by heating the spores under isothermal and non-isothermal conditions followed by an isothermal period. Ex perimental data obtained after isothermal heating were analyzed using a two-step linear regression procedure and a one-step nonlinear regression method. Results obtained using both analytical tech niques were close, but the 90% interval of confidence for predictions was lower when the one-step nonlinear regression was used. These results indicated the convenience of using the one-step nonlin ear regression method to obtain thermal kinetic parameters for bacterial spores. Also, the parameters obtain…
Investigation on the Adsorption of N2 Ar, CO and CH4 on Aluminophosphates
1994
Abstract Adsorption isotherms at different temperatures and isothermal micro-calorimetric curves were measured for N2 Ar, CO, and CH4 on various molecular sieves as VPI-5, MCM-9, AlPO4-8, AlPO4-H, AlPO4-5, SAPO-5, AlPO4-39, AlPO4-C. It was shown that the isosteric heats of adsorption correlated with the pore-sizes of the studied molecular sieves.
Study and Modelling of the Vacuum Swing Adsorption (VSA) Process Employed in the Production of Oxygen
1999
An isothermal and non-equilibrium mathematical model was provided for the multi-component adsorption process. In addition, the software was developed for the VSA-based production of oxygen with the use of a CaX zeolite molecular sieve. The mathematical model and computer software were verified on the basis of experimental data. The study employed a test stand comprising two adsorption columns. The adsorption pressure P A = 150 and 135 kPa and desorption pressure P D = 20 kPa were adopted in the experiments. The tests produced oxygen with the purity of 90–94% O 2 (vol), at an efficiency of 55–73% and productivity of 570–850 kg O 2 per ton per day. The calculation results showed good consiste…
Adsorption and diffusion of linear and dibranched C6 paraffins in a ZSM-5 zeolite
2002
The adsorption of n-hexane and 2,2-dimethylbutane on a commercial ZSM-5 zeolite is studied under isothermal and isobaric conditions. ZSM-5 exhibits two different behaviours with linear and dibranched alkanes. A substep at 4 molec.uc−1 is observed on the adsorption isotherm of n-hexane at 348 K. A singular adsorption-desorption process is evidenced on the adsorption isobar at 5.5 kPa with 2,2-dimethylbutane at a temperature close to 343 K when the sample is activated at 298 K under vacuum. The diffusivities have been determined by fitting directly the uptake curves with a numerical resolution of second Fick's law based on finite difference method. Microporous diffusion seems to be rate limit…
"Reactivity of Cu3Si of different genesis towards copper(I) chloride"
2000
Abstract A comparative study of the reactivity between copper(I) chloride and three types of Cu 3 Si obtained in a molten medium (Cu 3 Si-Ref) and from mechanical activation following an annealing process (Cu 3 Si-M2AP) or a self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (Cu 3 Si-MASHS) was performed by thermogravimetry under vacuum using non-isothermal and isothermal methods of kinetic measurement. It was established that for the three Cu 3 Si/CuCl systems, the acceleration and decay stages in the temperature range 145–215°C are very closely approximated by an equation of the Prout–Tompkins type where an autocatalytic process was proposed. The lower apparent activation energy obtained for the…
Gas-liquid chromatographic analyses
1983
Abstract The gas chromatography of mixtures of n -alkyl acetates (CH 3 COOR, R = C 1 —C 8 ) and methyl esters of aliphatic n -carboxylic acids (R′COOCH 3 , R′ = C 1 —C 8 ) and certain of their monochlorinated derivatives has been studied on Carbowax 20M and SE-30 glass capillary columns under the same operating conditions. The separation of the isomeric monochlorinated esters was complete on Carbowax 20M, whereas on SE-30 the peaks of 6- and 7-chlorooctyl acetates and methyl (ω − 1)- and (ω − 2)-chlorooctanoates and -nonanoates partly overlapped. The complete separation of the mixtures could not be achieved, however, on Carbowax 20M, in spite of the use of various operating conditions. The …
